The Campus Compact is a coalition of nearly 1,100 college and university presidents — representing some 6 million students — who are committed to fulfilling the public purposes of higher education. As the only national association dedicated to this mission, Campus Compact is a leader in building civic engagement into campus and academic life.
The Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Classification for Community Engagement provides a special-purpose classification for higher education institutions with commitments in the area of community engagement.
The classification is not an award. It is intended to assist in a process of institutional change to improve the educational effectiveness of the campus through the institutionalization of community engagement. 119 universities in the U.S hold this classification.
